Al Freeman, Jr. was an American actor, director, and educator. He appeared in many stage roles, on television’s One Life to Live, The Cosby Show, Law & Order, Homicide: Life on the Street, and The Edge of Night, and in the films Malcolm X, Once Upon a Time… When We Were Colored, and Down in the Delta.

He was the son of Lottie Brisette (Coleman) and Albert Cornelius Freeman, a jazz pianist. He served in the Air Force in the Korean War. Al was married to Sevara E. Clemon, until his death.
