KINGSTON, JAMAICA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Reggae star Sizzla has won a court appeal of his profanity sentence in Jamaica, and will pay only a small fine instead of serving jail time.
The Jamaican reggae singer, whose real name is Miguel Collins, was convicted in February after a court heard evidence that he repeatedly used expletives during a reggae show a month earlier, despite being warned against it.
He had been sentence to 15 days in prison after refusing to perform 20 hours of community service. Sizzla’s appeal was accepted, and the court ruled that he would pay a fine of just $32.79 USD, approximately $2,000 Jamaican dollars, according to Reuters.
Jamaican police have been cracking down on profanity on-stage, based on a British colonial-era public order law that prohibits indecent dress or expression. Sizzla was the first artist in Jamaica to be sentenced to prison time for using profanity. –by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
